Ben's Classic Art Studio

Ben's Classic Art Studio is a part of www.Aartschool.com This is an Art School for children and adults, for beginners and professionals.

Why is it Ben's?

Benedict is a big, black, Newfoundland dog who weighs 180 pounds /about 82 kg/. He is very kind, strong, smart, noble and highly gentle. A true gentleman.
It is impossible to disagree with Lord Byron's words of praise. By his order, a sarcophagus was erected near the altar in the ruins of the chapel of the Newstead Abbey. The base, made up of wide round steps, leads to a carved pedestal which supports an elegant urn. Engraved upon the pedestal are the following words:

Near this spot are deposited the remains of one who possessed beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without ferocity, and all the virtues of man without his vices. This praise, which would be unmeaning flattery if inscribed over human ashes, is but a just tribute to the memory of Boatswain, a dog who was born at Newfoundland May, 1803 and died at Newstead Abbey Nov. 18, 1808

Byron is not alone in his love for the Newfoundland. Their reputation as courageous rescuers has earned Newfoundlands many admirers. The reproduction of Sir Edwin Landseer's painting "Distinguished member of the Humane Society" was no less popular in England and America than Kramskoy's "The Stranger" was in Russia. The "Distinguished Member of the Humane Society" was the Newfoundland Bob, and inhabitant of the banks of the Thames well known to all Londoners. There are 23 officially registered cases of people rescued by him.

Our Benedict is very domestic. He would be more than happy to play the part of a courageous rescuer, but unlike Bob, he has no one to save. He is especially good with children, a "Kid's nanny".
Meeting and greeting all visitors, Ben has free reign of the entire studio and is in essence my partner. As a reward after every two-hour class session, the children are permitted to play with him and pet him. On the above photograph you see a Chihuahua, one of the smallest dogs in the world. Chapi is Ben's best friend.

Benedict passed away on March 18 2008 at the age of 10.
The name of the studio remains for in memory about this noble dog.
